It's Not Therapy

It’s Not Therapy—It’s Just a Friend Who Gets It
by The HI Project Team

Let’s be real—college can be kind of a mess. Between exams, group projects, figuring out who you are, and just trying to keep it together, it’s a lot. We all have moments where we just want to talk to someone who understands. Not necessarily a professional. Not necessarily your best friend. Just… someone.

That’s where Wellness Friends come in.

We like to think of them as the chill middle ground between a therapist and a friend. They’re not here to fix you (because you’re not broken), and they’re definitely not here to psychoanalyze you. They’re just here to be real with you, lend an ear, and maybe drop a little mental health wisdom when it’s needed.

So, what is a Wellness Friend?

Glad you asked. A Wellness Friend is someone who:

  • Is trained in basic mental health knowledge (we’re talking real-world stuff like providing a chill environment, zero-judgement, and knowing when to suggest professional help if it seems right)

  • Gets what it’s like to be a college student right now

  • Can offer support when you’re overwhelmed, anxious, or just need to talk

  • Is not your therapist, your mom, or your motivational speaker—they’re just someone who gets it

This isn’t some heavy or serious commitment. It’s not a support group. It’s not counseling. It’s a low-pressure way to get support from someone who actually knows what they’re talking about (and maybe what you’re going through too).

Why did we create this?

Because sometimes we need help, but we don’t always want to go to therapy—or we’re not ready, or it’s too expensive, or we just need something a little more casual.

We also know how isolating college can feel, even when you're surrounded by people. You’re not the only one going through this. And no, you don’t have to figure it all out on your own.

This program is about connection. It’s about taking care of each other. It’s about saying, “Hey, I’ve got you.”

Want to be matched with a Wellness Companion?

Cool. Just fill out this form. Tell us a bit about yourself, and we’ll connect you with someone who fits your vibe.

No pressure. Just support.

Because even when it’s not therapy, it can still mean a lot :)
